Heidegger is mostly a response to Husserl, but highly influenced by classical German idealism.

Read these in this order,
Leibniz's Monadology
Spinoza's Ethics
Kant's Critique of Pure Reason
Fichte's early works, then Wissenschaftslehre
Schelling's Freedom Essay
Brentano's Psychology from an Empirical Standpoint
Frege's Foundations of Arithmetic
Bergson's Time & Free Will / Matter and Memory
Husserl's Logical Investigations
Husserl's Ideen (Vol I only, get Hackett)

and then finally, Heidegger's Being and Time

this is just the minimum requirement to get everything out of it that you could, you may get filtered without having more prereqs and also you may be able to skip straight to whatever if you are high IQ enough

I made that chart and I did read Baumgarten. It's a good work with many proto-Kantian thoughts, for example,

"If the matter in this world is said to be infinitely divisible, then this is understood either absolutely, as saying that there are no indivisible parts in it, and is false, or it is understood relatively, as saying that in dividing this matter no parts can be observed by us except those that are further divisible, and it is then true that matter is indefinitely divisible."

The benefits of reading Baumgarten is one, learning the precise definitions of words Kant uses like "posit" etc, and two, in easily digesting Kant's lectures on metaphysics which uses it as the textbook for his lectures. Those lectures (just the few I indicated) contain some of the most succinct and easily understood summaries of Kant's transcendental aesthetic, along with getting you used to Kant's terminology in an easy conversational setting.

Yeah, I'm reading through this list and I was wondering if the monad is related to the atomists. I didn't even think about the religious aspect though.

not really. Hume is just Berkely + induction. Just read Hume's account of causality somewhere (this is literally the only part of Hume that matters for Kant.) He is not like German philosophers where you need to understand background to understand where he's coming from. Just read a wikipedia article on him.

The way you study it without going insane is by understanding it. If you flip through pages of a book without understanding what you're reading, but force yourself to run your eyes over the text for 1,000 pages, I think that is mental illness already.

To understand it, just read what you need to beforehand (chronologically) to understand what the words and concepts they're employing refer to

but the third is most important for German idealism lol

mainly you just need to read Kant's 3 critiques, then you will understand the mindset for idealism and speculative philosophy
