Are you US or Canada? Wondering if you have 'registered investment accounts' For general information googling works just fine and the first page is Investopedia which usually very helpful. Also, I'm sure there's some decent Youtube channels for information on what the terms mean.

As in the earlier posts suggests you kind have to trawl through /biz/, r/pennystocks (r/Canadianinvestors if your in canada) for stock tickers. You should be thinking both on the micro level: looking at the financials of a company, though in many cases doesn't matter from 2020 onwards. Then marco level: for example weed stocks crushing it right now due to speculation of legalization in the states - however looking at Canada you can realize that the financials never really panned out even with full legalization.

And generally try to do Due Diligence on a company which will be on the financial statements on their website i.e. their revenue vs. expenditure, etc. Admittedly, I'm pretty neglectful of this myself sometimes...

If you do have a registered account look at ETF's that track certain industries or even general markets. They're safe and even with Covid they'll net you money - better than just having it sit in the account. They usually have very little management fees. Mutual Funds are more active trading and are more difficult for in terms of taxation (constant trades) so I'd recommend that if you have an IRA or TFSA (Cad). A Fund under the ticker FID1298 has done well for me, even though their fee's are quite high (2.5%); it's gone up ~30% or so this last year.

I'll be monitoring the thread if you have questions. I'm not expert, but I've gotten lucky and haven't lost too much money jumping into dumb plays or following the hype.

I don't have a matched RRSP or anything so I need to invest and neither do many of my friends. Best to learn ASAP.

Very nice, Anon. Your Spanish(?) accent lends itself well to narration for an A*glo audience. I would look at sorting out the white noise in the background- maybe ambient noise (white noise, fireplace, rain sounds) would help if you can't/don't want to buy a new mic.
