Accusations of tyranny are often used as a pretext, yes, but it is not just that. Compare the phenomenon of "captain of industry" capitalism with vulture capitalism and you see the same dynamic. A purely parasitic, oppressive and destructive approach to the populus generally indicates a tyranny. Plato has a good section differentiating the various forms of government in the Republic - he compares the typical city, which is in fact "two cities in constant war against each other" (just like the possibilities that we are discussing) with the perfect or true city, a unified and organic whole, a well-oiled machine. But there are different levels to all things. A tyranny properly speaking, as defined by Plato, is a kind of race to the bottom, where a predatory and parasitic elite destroy the polite in order to derive temporary material benefit. The absolute antithesis of this is a polity where a true elite governs soberly, according to moral principles. Most states tend to fall somewhere in the middle, and upward and downward shifts are also possible.
If we are considering the modern West, I think we are experiencing a situation somewhere between a libertine democracy and a true tyranny, which are the two lowest levels in Plato's schema. Obviously it is a bit complicated because of the plutocratic nature of the West and the various repressive tools that have existed and have been honed for at least over a century. I think we're reaching the levels of mob cannibalism and parasitism appropriate to true tyranny only now, however. This still doesn't mean that we should disregard possibilities which, though no longer existing for us, can and do exist in different eras.

Satistics, without even as much as mentioning different races, are able to identify patterns most likely exhibited by specific races. You could be completely race blind and still make decisions based on statistics that would isolate races from eachother. This is empirical evidence that there is a difference between people.

I find it hard to believe the degree of hubris in science fiction writers to think they could create a universe with life better than God himself. I went onto the Worldbuilding stack exchange, and it was a big mistake. Threads upon threads about alternative biochemistries, superhabitable planets, perfect organism design, but it all fell upon closer critical analysis. For the ultimate boon for those who follow the word of God, the creator, the Monad, the first and the last of all things within his sphere of love and creation, is that life can only exist in the way it does now. Any alternative variable causes a dysfunction cascade, which is why transhumanism and the mRNA technology are so dangerous. I hope that science fiction writers are aware of their heresy, and find the Lord soon.
