Why are some of you so reluctant to call this genre fiction? Just because it's well written and ''comfy'' doesn't mean it's not genre fiction.

Is it worth reading beginning to end, or should I only read certain books (and then read the whole thing if I’m feeling devoted)?

I have a lot of books I want to read, so I’m wary about spending so much time reading parts of the Bible that won’t give me any real substance.

Seriously though, have a lot of you read Kafka's novel Amerika? He's discussed quite often here, but I never see mention of that work. I just started reading it, not sure how I feel about it yet. Seems very different from everything else I've read of his (a lot).

True, there are beautiful stories in it; the book of Daniel, the Binding of Isaac, but between these moments there's an awful lot of tedious begat-ing and trivial details about building things.

Does it bother you that some messages in the bible may be 'tainted' or altered completely by translations? How do people deal with this? I'm not even autistic but if I were a christian, I would be constantly paranoid as to whether or not what I was the reading was the original, untampered version.
