There is an esoteric dimension in high-quality picture books, which connects to a sacred dimension; in conveying the simple joys of life in a magical manner, picture books point to some deeper metaphysical mystery that the discursive mind cannot truly comprehend. Picture books show that there may be a divine spark in life, which is more apparent during periods of tranquility. A mysterious irradiance permeates everything, which becomes more apparent during periods of tranquility. Boredom evaporates as one relaxes to the songs of the bird. Even Ted Kaczysnki said this, "Finally, one learns that boredom is a disease of civilization. It seems to me that what boredom mostly is is that people have to keep themselves entertained or occupied, because if they aren’t, then certain anxieties, frustrations, discontents, and so forth, start coming to the surface, and it makes them uncomfortable. Boredom is almost nonexistent once you’ve become adapted to life in the woods. If you don’t have any work that needs to be done, you can sit for hours at a time just doing nothing, just listening to the birds or the wind or the silence, watching the shadows move as the sun travels, or simply looking at familiar objects. And you don’t get bored. You’re just at peace."

A tranquil picture book cannot be seen as a mere book in other words. It is in fact a way to turn the light inward, to see the so-called mundane illuminated by a more luminous and otherworldly light. Dogen calls it the "One Bright Pearl" whereas Zoroastrians refer to it as "Spenta Mainyu".

One of the best picture book artist to capture this sublimity in modern times is Inga Moore. I shall use her story A House in the Woods as an example. In A House in the Wood we read a story about two little pigs who create dwellings out of branches and leaves for themselves in the wood, but a moose and bear accidentally destroy it when trying to take residence. Thus, begins a journey inwards towards Spenta Mainyu and the "One Bright Pearl", which Inga Moore's radiant background hints at. They invite beavers to help build a cabin for them all. In exchange, they promise the beavers peanut butter jelly sandwiches. Everyone helps the beavers in their noble quests of building the cabin; it is as if the voice of Ohrmazd or Amitabha murmurs into one's ears as he reads this story. When the house is finally complete, the moose, bear, and pigs buy the ingredients needed to quickly make peanut butter sandwiches. There is a nice picture where all the animals enjoy eating their foods, telling each other stories until the evening where the haze sets in, having an otherworldly character.

I wanted to publish picture books of this caliber, but the literary agents just want woke shit. Regardless, high-quality picture books can be purifying.

What does lit think of this?
Our bookshelves are similar and his pronunciation is pure autodidact.

You make a mockery out of a sacred medium that has many art pieces close to the divine. Creating and reading picture books are not merely a source of entertainment, but it involves a process of purification, a temporary cleansing of defilement. There is a real mystical dimension in high-quality picture books and children's literature. In fact, I do not view such literature as dedicated solely to children, so I prefer to call it "literature of light". It contrasts "literature of darkness", which is disturbing works like Maldoror.

Why do you look to me rather than the potentiality of spenta within yourself? Like Bodhidharma pointed to one's "true nature", I go a step further by pointing to one's "spenta nature", which the wise cultivate in order to eradicate angra.

Moominvalley is real but so is Ligotti's gas station carnivals. One is closer to the celestial heavens, to Ahura Mazda's House of Wisdom, whereas the other is closer to Ahriman's House of Lies. Granted, it is essential to aesthetically comprehend both but seek to cultivate Spenta Mainyu within oneself in this actual world.

When you were a child, you were closer to the divine light and, thus, saw the specialness intrinsic in all life. Now, as an adult, you have most likely become depraved and disenchanted with this wondrous world. Your mind is defiled, and it must be purified, daeva.

I have good tastes in artwork that is aligned with Ahura Mazda, and likewise, I have good tastes in artwork aligned with Ahriman. Moreover, I am a very good philosopher, and I could beat any philosopher in debate.

I am highly educated, and I am a Buddha-Saoshyant hybrid.

Part 02/02

Why do you place Bataille, Lautreamont, Lovecraft, Ligotti, Machen, Aickman, Barron, and horror fiction above this in terms of "depth and nuance"? It is true they have seen the shadow, that infernal decadent darkness, but where there is Ahrimanic darkness, there must be light. However, you privilege one pole over the other as evidenced by the frequency of conversations revolving around dark literature far surpass those of the light. It is may be that you prefer the darkness over light, and this talk of “boredom” is merely a ploy to conceal your worship of the blackness of ambition. It is my job to burn the darkness away with light.

You have lost the childlike inquisitiveness, you have lost that holiness. You can no longer chirp like the birds. We need a one-to-one talk, we need some personal time together. Your eyes will open to Ohrmazd once more. You will come to see how picture books can be on the level of Nabokov, if not more.

Praise be to Ohrmazd,
Resplendent like the picture books!
