What makes Shakespeare's work 'timeless'? I have read that Shakespeare wrote beyond the 'janglings and bickerings' in which he lived, beyond the local shocks of his own time, almost independent of historical circumstance.

Why do dead writers get worshipped like gods? If pic related had a twitter account, nobody would consider him the greatest writer.

Why is he so popular even though his work is relatively high brow?

Why is Shakespeare a genius, or better yet, considered the greatest writer of all time? I'm aware of his popularity, but I would like to know why he is considered so highly.

How is Shakespeare a 'writer', when he only wrote plays, which is their version of writing films. It is not suppose to be read but watched, beautiful words, but it's not to be 'read' in solitude but experienced as play.

Are Shakespeare's plays supposed to be read or watched? Where should I start?

For writing inspiration

Why did people write so much better a few hundred years ago?

Why is Shakespeare considered the greatest writer of all time? Don't just namedrop his plays and tell me he 'invented a lot of words'. I want to know why people think his writing is high quality. His technique. I've read all of his sonnets and I don't find them to be even top 10 poetry wise.
