I know it is, and I've visited it twice you asshole. I just thought the fact that all of the places I mentioned, expect maybe Riften, are so obviously based on Venice that it was hardly worth mentioning. And since I'm not looking for books set in Venice but fantasy books with a sort of dark vibe to the setting, the places I mentioned serve as a better example than the actual city.

I mean holy fucking shit, only on /lit/ would I ever see some smug idiot actually feeling superior for knowing that Venice exists and thinking someone wouldn't. It's not the capital but due to its cultural importance not knowing about it would equal to not knowing what is Rome, or London, or Berlin. Or a 'murican not knowing that New York or L.A. exists.
