probably because it's spiritually void. I understand what this class of person is, they're the last generation of a technocratic in the United States. The liberal technocrats that haven't been completely squeezed to death by capitalism, the ones who still operate in a market that has some dynamism, and therefore free space to create. Basically a cheap and capitalist copy of the early Cold War US technocratic analytics (Neumann, Quine, Godel, Weiner, Bateson, et al).

They see themselves as stewards to a new, even more technocratic, and therefore better world. But, their problem is that they are sterile. While the cold war technocrats were busy creating the computer, cybernetic theory, systems theory, the atomic bomb, LSD, game theory, and really, just revolutionizing science, technology, math, and even philosophy, what have these guys produced? They cannot produce, because they do not cross pollinate, they are incestuous.

Where is their superintelligent AI that will guide us towards a better world? Where is their power? Their invention? Their leadership? Nowhere of course. They're mostly nervous, exhausted and defeated. Have you seen Nick Bostrom's Ted Talk? He looks like he is on the verge on tears the whole time.

Analytic philosophy and secular humanism are exhausted fields. For a technocratic class to produce anything, it would need to expand its horizons, but these people only narrow them. Sam Harris is perhaps the best example of this; instead of using analytic philosophy and neuroscience to coalesce with spiritual forms of morality, he rejects them. The same is likely true of these texts that profess a "new theory of the mind" - spirituality is likely tossed aside in them.

Ultimately, the worst thing about these people is their hypocrisy. Do you know why this class of person has become sterile and exhausted? It is because liberalism has the legacy of White English supremacy at its root. All of the adoptions of foreign culture like buddhism, yoga, daoism or whatever they might try are always just shallow affects. They would never take them seriously. God help them to interpret Zarathustra's ramblings. Another shallow affect only as deep as "Nietzsche is a cool Atheist!"

Sadly, these people will be squeezed to death by capitalism soon. As soon as the silicon valley bubble finally pops (it may even be in the process of this), capitalist economic logic will shut down any kind of risky and vital development of cool projects these guys might have. They'll all be making commodities to be consumed and their grant funding will dry up.

Mishima lived his one particular truth. That is what is admirable about him. His own particular will was more powerful than the world around him. Every word that he spoke he meant with utter sincerity, every idea, every passion, every emotion, they meant something to him. I don't think he really wanted the world to change. I don't think he was a revolutionary in the sense that he wanted to lead an army to remake the world in his image. He was an actor, an artist, a poet, and a mystic. He simply took the world for what it was, took himself for what he was, and did everything he can to live his life true to them.
