First Post, please excuse my retardation

What are some good tragedies you all have read? I enjoyed common one's such as Les Miserables, and lesser known ones such as Madame Bovary, but wanted to know what others find good.

I love reading happy ending books, but tragedies have that nice touch of extra drama that "happily ever afters" can't achieve for obvious reasons

I was wondering if you guys had any book suggestions for books that are just good and fun reads to help the retarded among us to get back into reading? Could be fiction, could be non-fiction, could be whatever but not everyone wants to read philosophy or impress English professors.

Every anon here can find some good fun books from this thread. Plz support the illiterates among us with your suggestions :)

I've been writing for nearly 20 years, reading classic books and poetry and even the most admonished TV and cinema. Faggoty arrogance, maybe, but I really don't doubt my book is worth people's time. The problem is promotion and reaching your target audience.

I'm an editor so I constantly read through dogshit manuscripts and a few good ones. Despite what boomers think, books rarely are sold outside of Amazon or even in physical form unless you're a 1% publisher/author.

I'm not expecting at all to get rich and famous. My realistic goal is to get a few thousand people to read my stuff, maybe eventually supplement my income.

I'm finishing a Fantasy and a Historical Fiction book, and am thinking about giving away them both free as they're the first in their series in hoops of hooking people for the monetized second. Even so, I have no idea where to share/advertise them.

I remember some threads, two weeks ago, about the need for a literary movement championing simple, greentext-esque writing.
An anon named it "naiveté", and it caught on for at least 2 hours.

Has any of you been thinking about it? Do you have writings planned?
Or did it die out?

For me:
-Following a schedule
-Waking up early
-Exercising for mental clarity and energy
-Meditating for focus
-Journalling
-Taking notes while reading
-Splitting your studying into different blocks and alternate topics
-Having a clear goal in mind
-Do something entertaining every day as to release pressure (eg watch a movie)

That's all I have anons

that the world has picked the non-political metaphorical work of Republic against the actually political work Laws and the fact that the philosophers of the world completely gloss the Laws, one of his best if not THE best dialogue, is a damn shame.

I'm trying to remember more of what I read. Not just in non-fiction but fiction. What do you actually do while reading? Not advice that you would give someone else but not do yourself. I hear people often say to have a piece of paper next to them taking notes and shit... but do people actually do this?

I had a few ideas, namely to stop after each so-called "scene" and try to explain to myself what just happened. Should I be trying to intensely visualize exact what is going on? How then would I remember dialogue since that is not visual?

Something else I noticed: I always remember everything I read if someone says "do you remember _____ happening," (e.g., if I read the SparkNotes I'm like yeah I remember all that) but if I was asked "name everything that happened in the chapter" then I couldn't get close to listing all of those things. How do I close this gap in retrieval of memory?

The best books for any subject usually have nothing in their title that indicate what they are for; so you can't find them when looking for them.
It's quite annoying, all you find are textbooks or some midwit pop-sci/phil book.

You have spend enough time here for today. How about rolling the number of pages you are going to read before you come back? (00 has to finish the book)

I don't want to write/read purely from an emotional consumer level anymore but rather understand things like structure, prose, references, cliches, etc.

Are there any foundational books that I should read?

Mostly for lit core and contemporary literature. I may not agree with whatever edgy or pc stuff is circulating but I want to at least understand why its being talked about beside marketing ploy.

I guess like what someone might read in an MFA assuming those programs actually teach you anything.
