Young people being free to have sex is something that's combated on two sides by two difference forces.

1) Religious conservatism, which contrary to its stated mission has nothing to do with morality and consent and is actually focused on barring people from sexual activity when they are at their sexual prime, as a means to suppress extramarital sex.

2) Feminism. For some reason people are spreading a misinformed meme that feminists want the age of consent lowered. Feminists were the people who originally had it raised to 18 if you're not aware, and their stance hasn't changed. Feminists do not want to compete sexually with young attractive girls.
