Came here to post this. Great choice anon. Novel was published in 1995 so you're good with the timeframe.

The ultimate conclusion you should get from NLMG is that the life of the clones is really no different than our own lives; just because they live to 30 and we live to 80, we are all ultimately going to die in a relatively short amount of time, and as much as we might want to fight against it, there is no denying it and the best thing that we can do with our time on earth is to take care of eachother and not hold petty grudges for our entire lives.

RE why he got the Nobel, NLMG is ultimately minor Ishiguro. Remains, Artist, and Unconsoled are all great works.

You picked Ishiguro's starter YA novel. Should have stuck to the left side of the official /lit/ chart.

He is great. I need to update the /lit/ chart with "Living," which would go in the bottom part of inessential works.

How does one make a chart ? The ones I've made so far were on photoshop and them things took me too much effort to make . I couldn 't find a software or template to save my life .

Canonical /lit/ Ishiguro chart is a good guide to his work.

Never Let Me Go is not great, or even good, Ishiguro.

This and remains of the day are his best works. Klara is the best contemporary bit of lit I've read. I fully agree with picrel anon's chart.

Klara and the Sun is ridiculously simple and straight-forward yet it encapsulates and conveys more emotion than so many other, elaborate works. I believe it is the peak of Ishiguro's career - simple and beautiful.

Nice digits. I had preordered her first book out of love for her father, but then I cancelled it before it was released. Haven't read anything of hers, and maybe I will at some point but there's so much other literature out there that I don't know when I'll have time unless I start hearing good things about it.

How do you find Stevens to be obnoxious, anon? I found him touching and relatable (though maybe I'm obnoxious myself), and ultimately he pays a pretty enormous price for his pretensions to finding meaning through unthinking service and duty to others.

Ishiguro is wonderful indeed. My favorite living author by a significant margin.

I absolutely loved Klara and the Sun, it was simple yet better than so many other complicated muh-deep-meaning works, especially the ones that have come out recently.

That does not track with the canonical /lit/ Ishiguro Chart.

Do you guys really think that this is worse than When We Were Orphans or A Pale View of Hills?
