does this get better? 300 pages in: no themes, no plot, no character development, handful of strong prose sections, ample repetitive soulless descriptions of the mundane

Hello /lit/, I would like to compile a list of modern books. The intention is to create a spread of books that inform on the current condition of the literary world. This list can include anything from genre fiction, YA, pop psychology, books shilled by /pol/, textbooks (yes), cookbooks, poetry, whatever. The range of time would be any book written in the past 50 years, but with a focus on books of the 21st century. It would be ideal if these books have some kind of consensus and relevancy, but they do not strictly have to.

In 20-30 years a lot of the books being released will be considered modern classics. Why is /lit/ afraid of reading 'new' stuff? How long does a book have to age before its worth your time?

Don't you want to be the one to discover the future classics or do you want to continue being the sheep you are?
