>Middlemarch
Well if we're going as low as Middlemarch, then England has about 14 great novels and America has about 12

Also you missed the 3 other secret greats novels of China: The Plum in the Golden Vase, The Scholars and Investitures of the Gods

All three quite excellent, I'd also suggest anything on The Generals of the Yang Family

>Great Books of the Western World
>Western World
It's literally in the title.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Books_of_the_Western_World

If you want Eastern, go with The Chinese Classics or the Indian Classics, generally. Some of the Japanese stuff is good too, generally.

>I mean the people who DO read on here are more interested in their pet interests and choosing a favorite philosopher as their "brand" than cultivating a holistic understanding of the western literary tradition
it wasn't like that with old /lit/.

old /lit/ produced the single best compilation of recommended reading and literature across the whole internet.
The /lit/ charts are timelessly invaluable, you can browse wikipedia or ask other literature forums but nothing is so concise yet thorough as these charts. And the author charts are something that's unique to /lit/

Choose the middle path, child...go on, choose the middleway. Do yes go now among them both as though pruning in ones own garden...choose and go on, select, cut, make the hedge your maze in openhand and close, thumbwrapped sphinctertight.

People like you make me sick. I'd lose my soul just to take people like you to hell and back over the insults you insistently give. God damn you fucking ignorant pieces of shit, so ignorant even not to care about all the time and energy sacrificed by craftsmen and labours and financiers and so on, time and energy sacrificed for a product, a product from a sacred linage going back in all our history to the 1460's when our rules brought the idea of printing press and science to the west. You should respect us by finishing the book.

Techno optimists really need you to believe, for the sake of gains anon. your moral authority is negated and your abstractions are worse than speculators notepad files.
however you legitimate your views, real power will choose and implement what is to be known and what is worth discovering.
the opposition to any acceleration is a natural force that revels in the sacred violence of existence.
your lives as philosophers are to me the same as the abstract painters in that I might turn my eye to a strange scene or even look over an ineresting historical fact or two, but who cares about these channels, these agents of self-deception who crave so much what I give that I may choose amongst them, make them my own, and then forget them.
just as history will forget the sides
as in the mad pressure a crack appears or a piston turns, and I move on
---
I believe it was "adjacent possible" along with a bunch of biology we're likely to want to make sense of next. I mean, while time remains.

either you have a rarefied definition of romantic love that centers itself by selective opposition or you are ignorant of Chinese and Indian culture. Maybe both? Either way, Start with the Babylonians.

Collection, dissemination. When a rapper memories a fourteen hour screed about his life and performer it over three days, no matter what the content is, I'll proudly back the merit of that oral culture and make an award with as much significance as the nobel just to praise it, and if it ever gets transcribed, I'd praise that literature.

Music as literature means neither has merit and that pomo omni-empathy has destroyed the beauty of hate and antagonism to the point that no one individual can write to affect change. The age of art is over.

The Panopticon is perfect.
The Colosseum is beautiful.

Back to the Greeks.

Speaking of Oral cultures, how's that Odduhsea you bout to drop?
