This is different, because being a leader is hard to teach. It would be important for a leader to know military science and the history of his predecessors. While an aristocrat would only know his history through sociability.
I've often argued that once, hopefully when, democracy ends, that a small group of people should be removed from society and devote their lives to contemplating the worlds problems and defending civilization against dark ages. Or we could just have laid back monarchies again, that'd be comfy.
