Because interpretations of these philosophers are contentious and varying, and the interpreters are often biased by passing historical trends. Take Plato, for instance. Throughout most of Christendom's history, it was thought that Aristotle was the greatest gift to Christian theology, despite John's Christology being heavily indebted to Platonic metaphysics. As a result, study of Plato fell into disrepute (with only the Timaeus accessible to Europeans) and it did not recover until... the Cambridge Platonists? Maybe even Schopenhauer? Never mind the fact that Plato is the most important thinker of all time, never mind the fact that 95+% of Aristotlean philosophy — including logic — was lifted directly from Plato's dialogues, and never mind the fact that those who have tried to recreate philosophy from first principles (especially Descartes) have just ended up with a retarded version of Platonism.

It didn't get much better, either. Throughout the entire 19th century, I can count the number of acute, published readers of Plato on one hand. Then, in the 20th century, you have the logical positivists shitting everything up while Gregory fucking Vlastos became the foremost """expert""" of Plato in America. You know who the best readers of Plato were in this time? Unironically, Jacques "Word Salad" Derrida, Jacques "Baby Dick" Lacan, Iris "I'm in love with Wittgenstein" Murdoch, and Pierre "I'm in love with Wittgenstein" Hadot. Interpretation of Plato has just now barely began to unfuck itself, with people like Frisbee "That's my real name" Sheffield in the mix.

And that's just Plato. Imagine how people like Berkeley and Kant have been abused. Kant, in fact, was notably raped by Bertrand "Midwit" Russell.

Yeah the Avatamsaka Sutra is kino. In terms of "post-modern open-ended Hermetic Neoplatonic theosophy" the closest you can get might be Deleuze's Difference and Repetition. It would after all be necessary to "overturn Platonism" as Deleuze attempts, to realize—for lack of a better term—spiritual development, in the same way that the Lankavatara Sutra treats the finger pointed at the moon, or the Madhyamikas do reductio ad absurdum to discursive views. Deleuze also brings in Nietzsche, particularly the eternal return, and considers both Nietzsche and the Greeks to have had a properly esoteric dimension. And there are of course obvious affinities between Deleuze's Spinozism and the dharmakaya doctrine of the Mahayana.

Really they are only separated by the Iranian plateau. iirc linguists consider the urheimat of Sanskrit to be somewhere around the present Russian/Ukrainian border.

Well some of the tantra scriptures are literally about having sex scandals and consuming intoxicants to achieve gnosis. There's no reason to go into it and expect something else. It's only scandalous to the naive or uninformed. It's also not essential to Buddhism.

Whenever a westerner considers PKK and the separatist Kurdish movement as the righteous and inherently morally good movement, I wonder how wrong I am on the assumptions I have on Western politics.

>A number of scientists and philosophers, including William James, Karl Popper, John C. Eccles and Donald Symons, dismiss epiphenomenalism from an evolutionary perspective.[21][22][23][24][25] They point out that the view that mind is an epiphenomenon of brain activity is not consistent with evolutionary theory, because if mind were functionless, it would have disappeared long ago, as it would not have been favoured by evolution.
Because it was pruned.
That the mental state is useless does not mean that the process of creating it is. Maybe creating this mental state is an important process in the brain, which cannot be decoupled from consciousness. Or maybe consciousness is a side effect of our brain process. Maybe it is a side effect of all decision making of a high enough level.
... And the scariest of all, maybe we will evolve away from it. There are quite a few animals with useless evolutionary remnants.
I'll give you that it is a good point and complicates the question

Why do you guys care more/see more in continental philosophy? I'm not an avid reader of philosophy but from what I get, any somewhat relevant concept today (if we limit it to the modern up to now) comes from the anglosphere. Sure, the continental philosophy is more "poetic" it's closer to fiction --but then again this is irrelevant I think.

To make it clear I'm not from Europe OR the Anglosphere.

But to me, the continental philosophy sounds fancy but secluded, and lost in being wordy with with outdated concepts.

I need an honest opinion from you so that I can understand you autists. To me it sounds like you are mostly from the anglosphere and find it more appealing just simply because it's from another culture (more or less). (combined with the christian larp dominant on this board)

In short; explain yourselves.
