It's only about 300 pages but I remember this taking me a full month to read which I'm embarrassed about because I love McCarthy and his other works I could just burn through so easily but Blood Meridian really threw me off. Will have to re-read it sometime.

Pretty white girls deserve a pretty white-girl book. Instead it's Blood Meridian.

No memes, but it's one of his best alongside Suttree and Border Trilogy imo.

Post a book with a name. If that's your name, you must read that book.

Will bump for OP because I can't help but pick up a book sometimes based on its cover.

I really like the original Blood Meridian cover. It indicates the desolation, isolation and alienation that the book will gradually convey.

Memes aside, it's a genuinely disturbing book. It's not just the direct violence either, but the ambiguity regarding the Judge, his origins and the devastation he especially leaves behind.

What the fuck is up with this book and its run on sentences?

Its hard enough to follow whats going on with its dull, even pace that doesn't vary depending on whats happening, and sometimes you lose track and not realize someone has died, and no quotation marks which jut makes it more confusing and when the characters don't emote like they are some kind of weird sociopathic characters that don't react like human beings and although I think the language is beautiful it really paints a picture that tugs at my heart strings I mean im sitting on the train reading this and it casts a fierce bout of emotion but its hard to keep up with whats going on or giving a shit.

You know why? Because the run on sentences. They go for fucking entire paragraphs! Pages! How come I can't do that in my essays but this guy is considered a modern genius?! What possible artistic purpose could it serve other than make fall asleep?

Well, I wrote this in a thread but I'd like to start a new one about the same topic to get more opinions.

Some time ago I started reading McCarthy's work by curiosity.

I already read The Road and No Country For Old Men and I actually liked it.

Do you recommend me now try with Blood Meridian? Or do you guys think that I should read another book from him first?

Hello all, I have recently been completely enamored with Blood Meridian as a work of art, and have attempted to synthesize a movie trailer for it. I was particularly inspired after seeing Franco's adaptation of the gunpowder scene (I was appalled at how poorly it conveyed the atmosphere of the book).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-PjtKLB_Mc

I took 6 different movies and went through each one 3 seconds at a time, noted down scenes I thought I could use, and then strung some together to make a more cohesive whole.
For music, I chose Swans, because their primal, chantlike, terrifying drones remind me of the vast American sunbaked waste that is so prominent in the book.
I also chose to use a slightly (10%) toneshifted and trimmed version of the monologue on war that the Judge delivers , courtesy of the audiobook.
I hope someone here likes it and can give some opinions on how close/far this hits the mark!

Just finished this book, quite possible one of the greatest books I have ever read, really. Question is, anyone have any theories on what happened in the end? Mine is that the 3rd man pissing outside the outside was the main character, the man himself. Inside was the little girl that went missing whom the Judge presumably raped and murdered.
