I know this is a b8 thread, that being said while blind worship of science is stupid, but so is complete dismissal just because it seems relatively irrelevant to some prole's life, both of those stem from materialistic nihilism

Surely I'm not the only one who's philosophically not a nihilist but acts like one because of weak will

I'm curious how you "practiced" philosophical Daoism. As a counter-example, the understanding/visualization of all things being within a great "stream" of life (with me floating along in it's currents) and how much easier it is to float rather than fight the waters had helped me be at peace with a lot of things (death, for example). I'm a much more integrated person now that I have a framework for "things outside of me" and "things within me" -- two things that Western philosophy tries to contain within just yourself. There are benefits to both.

Well, look at Abraham and Jesus (assuming a historical Jesus existed) and Muhammad, and Buddha, and so on.

These guys had huge, identity-defining ideas that echoed up centuries. Regardless of whether they were actually in god's ear (in the case of the first three), they had enormous, trans-human, trans-reality ideas.

What I wonder is, what's the strike rate for that? Is it 100% of people who have ideas that big have them turn into religions? How many people have had huge, world-shattering ideas that COULD have become global religions, but didn't share them? How would we recognise a new one of equal magnitude?
