Just finished Johnny Got His Gun and to say I am not okay would be a severe understatement. Despite this, I'm a sucker for existential horror, so... what other books do you know that deal with realistic fates worse than death, /lit/?

Declaring that any and all meaning/theme conveyed by a work of art is open to interpretation by the person experiencing it (reader, viewer, etc.), while attaching no importance to the author's intentions is ultimately an ignorant stance to hold.

Relentlessly using the argument of "death of the author" to discredit or validate a certain interpretation of a work is simply irrational.

For instance, refusing to acknowledge the fact that J.R.R. Tolkien purposely inserted many elements of Christianity in The Lord of the Rings is an ignorant thing to do.

Let's discuss.

>can we have a thread about how women are inferior to men and why this distracts me from reading books?
>hey anons let's discuss how black people are worthless and cannot read or write
>is anybody else so seething with anger at normies with tinder accounts ruining my afternoon in london that they are incapable of reading?
I think I need to take a long break from 4chan
