OP here, I made zero mention of race, but since you brought it up...it's funny how Amazon's fan baiting and race baiting strategy panned out. Minorities are still mere tokens in the Rings of Power TV show, aside from the immersion breaking Puerto Rican elf. (since there are mestizos, that means Spain conquered the New World in this timeline???) Of course the blacks aren't SO dark skinned as to scare off their core viewer demographic, but just black enough to throw the woke crowd some scraps. LGBTQ+ people are meanwhile shamefully absent...but don't let this stop online activists from shilling, for free, for an anti-union mega corp exploiting the latest in political fashion as they continue to impoverish the working class and strip mine our culture.

I was a bit bothered by out-of-place races in this Middle Earth fanfic, as Tolkien already quite adequately addressed POC in the original trilogy and miscegenation makes no sense in this setting. But Lord of the Rings has essentially become the "big high school musical" for all of us. "You going to tell Tyrone he can't act in the play, he can only work on costumes or set design? C'mon, his mom will be there, let Tyrone act, this is the big event of the year! And bring Jose in, and Chun-Li too...everyone can be hobbits and elves, there's room for everyone!" So fine, whatever.

All of this is moot of course with Stable Diffusion AI, as within 5 years there will be several DIY raspberry pi-hole style appliances, made to filter out Hollywood's streaming racial exploitation as soon as it hits your home network. We'll be able to make the The Little Mermaid white again, or make the Rings of Power actors as the author intended, or we'll be able to make pic-related, truly racially diverse entertainment with BIPOC and ADOS filling our shows. It will be decided on a household level, and what could be more democratic?

Ultimately race isn't the issue, with this show or with any other. The issue is the writing: it's simply terrible. How do you write characters, if you have no character yourself? How do you write a Sherlock Holmes or an Alan Turing if you have a 95 IQ? How do you write an enthralling story if you have no life experience?
