I just finished reading this. What a great novel it was, I'm looking forward to read more of his works. This is the second novel I have read from Houellebecq including Submission.
I was expecting a better fate for Tisserand at the end but it didn't happen sadly.
Should I jump straight into Atomised now?

How can one man achieve so much in a mere 30,000 word novella?

Strange to think such a short book managed to gain a "cult following" in France after its release.

So I read this piece of shit and while it was enjoyable and fun, it made me depressed as fuck when I finished it. I'm not exactly super ugly but I'm not much attractive either. I almost regret reading it but not quite. I can't stop picturing myself ending like the protagonist: alone, jaded, unhappy and most of all: uncaring. Regardless, what was the aim of the author? To portray the alienation and despair of woke men living in this late capitalism nightmare or.. What else?

The only thing that really comes to mind is Houellebecq's works. There isn't one work that is the most like No Longer Human, but all of them have a certain key similarities. I suppose if I had to recommend one out of everything he wrote, it would be Whatever. As it has similar vibes and is also pretty short like No Longer Human.

Just to be clear, they wouldn't actually say or do anything, but I don't need their shit desu. Like they would keep theur mouths shut in the moment, but then a month later in the middle of an argument they'd go "Oh shut up anon, at least I don't buy books with naked girls on the cover".
I think my best option is just to buy them with other books, and quickly put it away before they come and ask what I got, they're nosy fuckers.

Bought it yesterday, it arrived today. I just finished the book. Couldn't put it down.
