I love analog horror.
Any horror books that are epistolary, that capture the feeling of something deeply, horrifically wrong under a benign surface?

Now that you're done seething, I'll explain it to you. Da Vinci Code was a success for the same reason isekai stories are a success, people want to feel special and be taken on an adventure. Readers want to self-insert as a main character who either has special powers or secret knowledge that no one else has, and then they want to face adversity and overcome it. All things that they lack in their real lives.

If you can write a story which fulfills those needs while giving it a fresh coat of paint that makes your story feel superficially "new" then you too can be a best seller. All you have to do is write.

You jest, but there are actual people, who hold vast amounts of power, political or not, who actually believe this.
Forced into this world, and forced to live in this world. Is there an existence more terrifying than that?

>When I talk to younger people, they seem to be so totally accepting of their fates without a hint of rebellion. I suppose that's exactly the way the system wants it, and it is highly demoralizing to see everyone just take it in the ass with a smile.
This is so true, it hurts to read this. Industrial society was a humongous fucking mistake and has resulted allowing too much power to shift into the wrong hands with relative ease, and to use said power with relative ease.
I don't think this world will be even recognizable in 2030 to people who grew up in the 90's, it's going to look like hell.

Try 4 AM and then dealing with patients who smear themselves with their own shit and piss, ask you to end their suffering and kill them or crying family members hugging braindead vegetables

Anyone else does this?
>pretend I'm explaining topics of History, Philosophy and Literature to friends or even a qt girl
>sometimes in this fantasies I go into long jaded pessimistic rants about the decline of the West and the inevitable fall of civilization, and everyone recognizes me as some kind of nihilistic Houellebecq-type
>by the end, it quickly devolves into self pity and crying, by that stage it's me talking to my therapist
>this is followed by a meta-explanation of these fantasies and quirks
>quickly close the loop so I don't go insane
Not gonna lie, I'm losing it, lads.

Do you want to escape this disgusting world through reading or come to terms with the fact that the world has always been like this and will stay like this until our inevitable downfall?

I don't think that literature will help you escape by any means, it only makes our flaws more apparent.
