Here goes:

>Remnants of the major governments moved to nearby colonies (the moon, stations, mars, planetary moons and asteroid belt)
>'Siri' returns and a recovered Jim Moore is at first overjoyed, but realises that it's not the same Siri that left on Theseus; Rorschach has gutted him or is mind controlling him or just straight up built a simulacrum
>First vampire child is born (not sure if major or minor plot point, but in there to show that the crucifix glitch, the alpha-cadherin pathway and the hardwired aggression have all been overcome or edited out of the vampire biology)

That being said, I don't think that is quite what you were getting at with your post. Are you more thinking of the platonic style of travelling polymath who would bring his knowledge and wisdom to the masses? If so then yes, absolutely those sorts are mostly a thing of the past; sadly.

I agree with>>12906986's assessment; the Academy has demonstrably become more insular, elitist and, I would argue, lost it's focus on acadaemia (which in theory is a universal source of good) which it has replaced with profit generation and political conditioning/propaganda. If you do not believe that acadaemia has become the beacon of progressive liberalism then fair enough, that last point probably won't see much favour with you, but I would be curious as to how you arrived at the notion that it isn't all the same (or maybe you are a progressive liberal, in which case you'd see it as a good thing and again the point is null, but I thought I'd mention it anyway).

Following on from the point that guy made as well that specialisation is ever-increasing, I would recommend you look up the Trivium form of education. I think Wes Cecil has a good intro video to it, but if not I'm sure you can find a primer on the system. Basically modern (Prussian) education doesn't lend itself to generating wise polymaths, but rather focussed, specialised workers who are selected also based on how much they hold the values of the state.

It's a sad state of affairs with not much any one person could do.
