Kingfountain series by jeff wheeler maybe. It's more of a historical fantasy with a touch of magic. More political than action oriented. I stopped after the third book which is basically the ending you requested. The next few books are apparently about the daughter of the MC and sounds like nearly the same story but the author just lumped all the books together.

So I finished the third book and read the synopsis of the fourth and it seems to be about Owen's daughter. Last time I posted this someone mentioned that the series gets meh in later books and I'm wondering if this is what you meant? As far as I'm concerned Owen got his happy ending and most of the loose ends were tied up. Kind of annoying that the author just wouldn't make the transition into a new series. Thinking I should just stop at book 3

Overall books 1-3 were pretty good though, would recommend.

Currently reading book 2 of the kingfountain series. I'm used to more generic swords/magic/coming of age while this is more historically and politically driven with a touch of magic. pretty good so far
