How do I get the most out of this book? Any supplemental reading or notes?

The themes are easy to follow and grasp but some of what the Judge says takes a while to understand, I find myself rereading his speeches to see if I get it. It was toigh to follow the action with my lack of understanding of the landscapes and ecology, and I'm wondering if anyone else did too.

Either way, what did you guys think of Blood Meridian?
