Cast EMJ aside and start reading Ratzinger.

This.

Why do you think pretty much every single Catholic in the world is either a low-IQ peasant or an absolute genius intellectual? Protestantism vacuums up all the midwits.

Yeah Ratzinger/Benedict is legitimately brilliant. I'd even go so far as to say that Ratzinger is the current Final Boss of Western thought. No thinker today can match him, which I know makes the atheists and the commies seethe, but they haven't produced someone on his level in the last 50 or 60 years.

More than being left-wing or right-wing, /lit/ has always been interested in religion. We were having Christian threads as far back as 2014. /lit/ has always had a particular interest in Catholicism, especially. That's where the "/lit/ is a Catholic board" meme comes from.

He's not a saint (yet) but Benedict got accused of Anti-Semitism a few times. Not as much as he got accused of hating Muslims, though.

God he's so based, I love him so much. He's the reason so many more priests celebrate the Latin Mass these days as opposed to ten years ago.

We've gotten a bit off-topic, haven't we?

I really love the Jesus of Nazareth books, but I confess I've always wanted to dive into Ratzinger's deeper stuff. Supposedly he wrote a ton of interesting shit in the 60s and 70s. What's a good list of books to read from his earlier days?

Ratzinger/Benedict is actually one of the great thinkers of the 20th Century. He's hugely underrated as a philosopher, theologian, and analyst. Everybody should read him.

Just as a beginning introduction to him, I recommend his "Jesus of Nazareth" books.

The tide is turning, slowly but surely. You can thank Benedict XVI and Summorum Pontificum for that.

I'm sorry, but this is incorrect. At the moment, Ratzinger/Benedict is the endboss of Western philosophy.

Why would I waste my time reading the literature of a flawed and inferior "church"?

Reminder that Ratzinger/Benedict is the final boss of Western thought.

We'll get Japan sooner or later. We'll get China, too. We've already basically gotten South Korea, it's only a matter of time.

>all the Christianity threads on /lit/
>nobody ever bothers to recommend Ratzinger/Benedict

This man is literally the ultimate source of Christian thought in the 20th and 21st centuries. He can be both extremely lucid and clear and also extremely dense and obtuse. He is the final boss of Western thought, at least for now. He is one of the smartest men of the last 100 years and his writings reflect this.

If you're brand new to Christianity, read his "Jesus of Nazareth" books. They're great. From there, you can begin to delve into his more careful, considered writings, including his responses to the changes of the latter half of the 20th century.
