If an AI can be said to posses intelligence at least on par with a human and poses no threat to humanity, I say why not give them rights?
However, this seems fairly unlikely to me. In the even that an AI with human intelligence capabilities is created, it will be dangerous. Not only on its own, but for the reason that it could be used as a weapon by humans to harm/control others.

The road ahead looks very grim to me, in spite of all the incredible advancements we will surely make. With the knowledge that man is inherently evil and cruel, I can only imagine the dark days ahead. I only hope that we have some way to protect ourselves. Fear the future.
