How was the science fiction list not a help to you? You aren't exactly asking for anything especially specific.

In your OPINION are sci-fi books a waste of time?
What books would you suggest to someone interested in getting into sci-fi?

I mean I know people love to bitch and moan about the dumbing down of youth or whatever, but how how is it that you've never read an 'adult' book until now?

Good modern (10 years span) sci-fi?
Is there such a thing?

Can you guys recommend me a good 300+ page book? I need to read one for my class. I like sci-fi, dytopian and post apocalyptic books. But I'll read anything. All the books I want to read and are on the recommended reading lists are under 300 pages.
