Is your knowledge of a philosophical position worth anything if you can't explain it coherently, to an educated person, without jargon?

Yeah, I dislike all the character-bashing in the HP fandom, but I admit Dumbledore's actions are pretty horrifying when viewed from a different angle. He was perfectly aware he was sending Harry to an abusive home, didn't give a fuck because "lel we don't want him getting spoiled". Then, when Harry is 11, sufficiently beaten down and has almost no self-worth, he introduces positive reinforcement into his life - the first person Harry meets is Hagrid, who worships Dumbledore and is a big softie. After that, we see him giving Harry occasional advice and praising him over the first year, cementing himself as Harry's trustworthy mentor figure. But worst of all, the whole Philosopher's Sone shit was there to test Harry's mettle. Dumbledore was perfectly fine endangering schoolchildren so Harry can go through the required hero's journey and grow up. And, if things went south and he managed to sacrifice himself and lose the horcrux, I'm sure that would have been very convenient as well.

This pattern of encouraging Harry's hero complex continues throughout most of the books, culminating in Dumbledore leaving Harry on a suicide mission to save the Wizarding World, most of which barely tolerate him and are unwilling to oppose the genocidal regime in the first place.

I do,ultimately, think that Dumbledore was supposed to be a flawed man put into a desperate situation, trying to save Harry as best be could. I think Rowling wanted to tear down his extravagant legend and reveal the guilt-ridden, conflicted man underneath. But it feels like she went too far, removed Harry's agency way too much. Almost everything in Deathly Hallows was planned out by Dumbledore in the end - he foresaw Ron running away, he foresaw Pettigrew's inability to kill Harry, he foresaw that his blood connection with Riddle might be able to save him, he arranged Harry willingly walking to death after being given Snape's memories in the proper moment - the series reads like an argument for divine determinism or something, rather than a story of an abused protagonist conquering his problems and fighting his own ideals. It's difficult to believe why Harry would have any attachment at all to the Wizarding government, who screwed him at every turn. Sure, he has friends and people who grows to care about, but seemingly the only plausible reason he becomes an Auror after DH is to continually manage his deep-seated guilt complex. He could have taken his inherited pureblood money and got the fuck out of Wizarding Britain desu.

Catholicism is interesting and all, but its moral system is pure unedultared insanity no matter how you spin it. It was better when they didn't pretend to be inclusive, now it's even more insane.

Is metaphysics the most fundamental field of philosophy?
In searching for the ground of our thinking, do we start from the fact of our consciousness (i.e. Cartesian doubt) or the existence of beings and what we can abstract from them, so ontological commitments?

Having free will sucks. Why did philosophers ever think this was a good thing? If we ever get the technology to manipulate someone's mind to make them perpetually content and happy, I'll be the first one to jump into it.
