It wasn't the same thing, not by a long shot. That's precisely what I'm saying. You could still avoid those threads and even if you couldn't the rest of 4chan wasn't affected by it. You could have a Nietzsche thread on /lit/ which, while filled with all the syphilis shitposting and whatever else, didn't instantly devolve into the Bell Curve and Jewish conspiracies. And that's something considering Nietzsche's relation, accurate or not, to the Nazis.

There are plenty of opportunities for light sources though. On a sunny day even the sun can play that role. I haven't read on specific cases though.
