Solid survey, it gets some hate but I'm a fan. I mostly focus on cultural/art history so I'm not the most qualified person to speak about that topic, but if you want a more fleshed out survey on the Revolution you can't go wrong with Figes (despite the fact that he sperged out online writing bad reviews of other scholars on Amazon under a pseudonym, pretty sad and funny at the same time). If you want some recs for cultural history of the revolutionary/Stalinist period (and how they're closely interrelated despite western misconceptions fueled by Trotskyist memers) I would check out Clark's The Soviet Novel: History as Ritual (pretty essential) and Groys' Total Art of Stalinism (not essential but entertaining and provocative af). Not a fan of Trotsky because he attempts to whitewash the Leninist project and pretend like it would have had a utopian outcome if he had only led the way.
