Can someone explain to me how Buddhists reconcile impermanence with dependent origination? If there is becoming and flux, wouldn’t that mean that there must be something permanent and stationary that exists in relation to the flux? But if there is something permanent and stationary that exists in relation to the impermanent, wouldn’t that contradict the idea that everything is impermanent? This isn’t some kind of “gotcha,” I’m genuinely curious.

> When this world is ever ablaze, why this laughter, why this jubilation? Shrouded in darkness, will you not see the light?

> Behold this body — a painted image, a mass of heaped up sores, infirm, full of hankering — of which nothing is lasting or stable!

> Fully worn out is this body, a nest of disease, and fragile. This foul mass breaks up, for death is the end of life.

> These dove-colored bones are like gourds that lie scattered about in autumn. Having seen them, how can one seek delight?

> This city (body) is built of bones, plastered with flesh and blood; within are decay and death, pride and jealousy.

> Even gorgeous royal chariots wear out, and indeed this body too wears out. But the Dhamma of the Good does not age; thus the Good make it known to the good.

> The man of little learning grows old like a bull. He grows only in bulk, but, his wisdom does not grow.

> Through many a birth in samsara have I wandered in vain, seeking the builder of this house (of life). Repeated birth is indeed suffering!

> O house-builder, you are seen! You will not build this house again. For your rafters are broken and your ridgepole shattered. My mind has reached the Unconditioned; I have attained the destruction of craving.

> Those who in youth have not led the holy life, or have failed to acquire wealth, languish like old cranes in the pond without fish.

>Those who in youth have not lead the holy life, or have failed to acquire wealth, lie sighing over the past, like worn out arrows (shot from) a bow.

Non-identity. Identity is an undesirable construct that constitutes a form of attachment that is only bound to perpetuate your suffering. The soul has no metaphysical identity (Atman) and is reborn innocent as Karma is a system of natural consequence as opposed to a system of justice.

I've been reading the Pali Canon lately and I keep coming across Suttas where the Buddha and his followers seem to stress the cessation of birth because it leads to the cessation of future suffering. Isn't this just anti-natalism? For example:

>Then Mara the Evil One approached the bhikkhuni Cala and said to her: "What don't you approve of, bhikkhuni?"
>"I don't approve of birth, friend."
>Mara: Why don't you approve of birth?
>For one who is born there is death; Once born, one encounters sufferings — Bondage, murder, affliction — Hence one shouldn't approve of birth.

The problem is that you both accept the entire premise of
>if there was no god, then everything would be acceptable
you just disagree on whether or not god is real. You gotta give him a reason to believe whatever you're trying to convince him of that isn't just "do what I say or X will punish you" unless you can make it damn clear that X is right fucking there and don't mind him not doing it when X isn't looking.

If you stay in the West you're just going to keep rocking back and forth between Nihilism and intellectually cucking yourself with religion. This is not a criticism of religion, but if you're solely adopting a religion so you don't get depressed about a lack of meaning yes, you are intellectually cucking yourself, and you know it, you're just doing it with religion. If you're intellectually capable of recognizing nihilism, you're simply going to always be running away from it.

I personally find the Buddhist process of stepping outside of the Nihilism-Eternalism pendulum to be an answer that's simply not found in Western philosophy. Accepting the impermanence of life is the answer, and trying to dig back to some root-cause, or some unchanging answer isn't going to work, because it doesn't work, and the moment something shakes your faith in this root cause you're just going to go back to being depressed and Nihilistic. Step outside of the pendulum, and embrace what is.

Felix comes off as such a lost, confused, insecure and hateful person who exists inside his own mind, that mind being an unsettled and whimsical one. I remember him talking about Buddhism too in one of these essay videos that get spammed, and how much he said to have liked it. I watched 1/3rd of one of his normal videos and I couldn't get through it, he seemed to take nothing to heart or practice anything that Buddhism teaches most likely misunderstanding it like how a 'soccer mom' or some corporate executive does. There's so much useless garbage clotting his mind in those regular videos that he gives out is simply an interpretation and repetition of that information, often in such a loud way too.
I can appreciate him trying to get better, but continuing with his mind poisoning videos, clotting other minds with his own accumulated sludge and then giving out these wikipedia style summaries to contrast it when he feels what I presume being regret for what he has been a part of, damaging people around the world and specifically the youth with youtube videos.
His reading of Diogenes was even purely materialistic. Just because he sits on the floor now while shouting and creating an identity around sitting on the floor does not mean any change to his screaming monkey mind.
