To add to this, Feanor's pride is described as being the greatest to ever exist such that, Tolkien describes the end of the world as a time where Feanor finally relents and is released from the Halls of Mandos and himself breaks the Silmarils that the world might be healed and remade.

Most people somehow gloss over the fact the Maiar basically imprison and waterboard the guy for millenia until he changes what's left of his mind so his captors can claim the moral high ground as he is compelled to sacrifice everything for everyone else.
