Very true. I came to the conclusion of suicide around 25 as a direct method of transcending the human condition. However, it felt more worthwhile to try and learn everything there was to learn, or else I would probably be mindraped in the afterlife if i reintegrated with some gestalt source. A high-thinker like DFW probably figured he'd seen all that he cared to, which is sad. Human history has been a fun misadventure so far, by my measure.

Contemporary philosophy is very vast and specialized. If you go to PhilPapers you can view papers by topics and sort them by different standards like impact (number of times they have been cited) and publication date. That way you can see who is currently publishing in certain topics you find interesting. You can also use PhilPapers to search the various philosophical journals if you want to see who the more prestigious journals are publishing. Or you can go to the Stanford Encyclopedia and search by topic and then go to the reference part of the page and look for the more recent publications that have been cited.
