A lot of people, like me, discovered him thanks to /lit/. After they finish, this might be the place they go to. Also seems to be a pretty obscure writer so I think this is one of the few places where people can discuss him.

I would try and go slowly anon, reading a few pages at a time. I think David Foster Wallace's prose can be misleading with it's casualness. A lot of times when I've run into issues with him it's because I tried to blast through his stuff. Same thing for me with Joyce. Hope you end up liking it anon. I think it's one of the greatest novels ever written.

I think Wolfe may have spoiled this genre for me. His work is so layered and dense and has an effect-the best way to put it is a lingering kind of thinking, a sort of mental marinade that sets in after you've read/analyzed. I don't know how people can speedread Wolfe or finish his books in a matter of a day/week, there's just so much and even a thorough read leaves you missing pieces

even if what you read might not have the most exciting plot or action, it's so incredibly rewarding
