ESL who's new to reading English books here. Can I safely dismiss any non-fiction that was published by Penguin and its offshoots? I feel like a corporation of this size will inevitably be pozzed and it will only publish non-threatening innocuous-looking books that foster the neoliberal agenda. Their books are also expensive as hell and I live in one of the poorer regions of Europe

I've repeatedly heard Penguin called "trash", "low quality". "garbage" here and I'm just wondering what the consensus on them is here. I've actually found that they're my favorite, besides maybe Oxford so I was surprised about them being shit on here. They have great introductions. IIRC they have the best translation on gilgamesh too

Can someone explain what's wrong with Penguin? I've seen some anons shit on them, but they never gave a reason why. Personally I found their translations are better than Oxford's. Also I like black and orange better than white and red.
