During the peak altright frenzy, around 6 years ago, he was being constantly memed and seemed to be a consensual figure in far right circles (even Christian ones!…) so I decided to give it a go and read Confessions of a Mask. It took few pages to realize none of its “followers” had actually care to read him. Even though I wasn’t particularly taken by the prose (it was a translation of a translation- French to Portuguese- so much could have been adulterated) yet I had to concede there was a big redeeming characteristic, which seems to be how he held no barrels on how deranged , tormented and self-destructive the mind plagued by homosexual thoughts could be (refreshing read during the enforced rainbow, glitter and pride propaganda era).
I also read a short story ( in English ) from Death in Midsummer and was more fond of it. His misogyny, if I remember well, was on another level (No will and grace territory here), and honesty I tend to enjoy.
What are your thoughts on him?
I saw a couple of interviews and he did seem like an extremely exquisite gentleman. What should I further read, what are the best translations? Anything worth watching?
The guy does have an appeal to him… but want to figure how much is myth and how much of it is actual literary prowess.
