How do you guys feel about making up words for a title? Like most books don't do it, but Mistborn isn't a word, not technically. Is it OK to make up a word used in-universe for a book title? I had my prof tell me that made up words are bad and people wouldn't know them therefore they wouldn't read your book. He said "that's not even a wordreally.. Your editor would tell you to change that"

>how do you guys feel about mixes of words or plays on words?

Like I feel like my professor was full of shit, because a lot of books use made up words.

>Eragon
>Mistborn
>Neverwhere
>fableheaven
>barsoom
>beyonders
>Discworld
>Elantris

I haven't read all of these. I'm just asking about the titles, is it bad to use a word that doesn't exist if its actually something from the story? Like what fuck am I supposed to say to my professor? I'm not a writer or anything, but I gave him the title "Incarnal" when talking about a hypothetical vampire book and he fucking roasted me for like no reason in front of the class. But it's like, carnal as in "flesh" so my line of reasoning was: he's not of mortal flesh (cause the MC would be a vampire) so maybe calling it "Incarnal" would be cool. This is for a hypothetical title, we were practicing writing essays with interesting titles and a good "hook" opening statement. Anyway is my professor full of shit? Are titles like Mistborn bad?

Jesus, when it comes to writing, the only course one should consider is English literature. The rest are unrespectable garbage.
