Wow, I'm gonna admit that this was very difficult. Upon finishing the novel I could still just barely piece things together. Almost seems like Faulkner was intentionally fucking with people by starting with Benjy's chapter and putting two characters in with the same name. I imagine I'd gain so much more upon a second reading but I don't know if I have the energy right now to start it over again. Can definitely see why it's considered a masterpiece though. Can some others share their experiences with this book?

Am reading The Sound and the Fury. Currently on part two. First contact with Faulkner overall, and so far the story seems almost nonsensical. Here and there some pieces fall together, but some passages seem pure improvisation, with no meaning/ressonance whatsoever. Does the book get any better? What did I get into, anon?

This book practically demands you to read it multiple times.

The Sound and the Fury discussion thread. Just finished it. I was a bit confused by the last line of the appendix.

What did he mean by "They" endured?

Started reading picrelated
Unfortunately, I can't say that I enjoy it
I do like the concept and more or less enjoyed reading the first chapter (had to reread it once since I read only part of it the first time and realised that I forgot the time threads).
But now, as I hit the second chapter, language got significantly harder and I now hardly understand metaphors or anything else for that matter apart from the plot.
At all time I feel as if I'm missing something (and I'm pretty sure I am) and it proves to be an unsatisfying experience. I don't really want to read it with a notepad marking anything I think is important nor do I want anyone doing it for me as it seems to be an essential part of the novel.

I ask for suggestions and your experiences with the novel.

because of the title only. The plot has nothing to do with storms, except of a personal nature.
