I just read the Wikipedia article for the limit of a function out of curiosity after seeing your post. I don't know if this is correct but here is how I understand it:

lim f(x) = L,
x -> p

f(x) approaches L as x approaches p.

lim f(x) = 0 = -1 / x^2,
x -> infinity

-1 / x^2 approaches 0 as x approaches infinity.
