It's ~130 pages of anon rambling about random stuff. Pretty entertaining considering it hasn't got a plot or deeper message. I think it's been circulating here because the guy is peripheral to the /lit/ twitter sphere

Roughly speaking it is a ‘believed’ point of view from the author’s research on what has been, and is, believed from the most early civilizations. Like I said before it is very broad. There is another book of the same author called The Sacred History which I just bought. Is a good read but none is it is definite, just keep an open mind

A dictionary of symbols by J.E. Cirlot
It's comprehensive definitions touch on cultural/historical/spriritual meaning behind various symbols. It is the BEST book on symbols you could purchase. I bought my copy for a friend's birthday, but after skimming through it, I couldn't give it up.

Go figure the author was a "poet, art critic, hermeneutist, mythologist, and musician"

itt times your lit heroes were diminished in your view

>prof. talking about how she took poetry workshop taught by Li-Young Lee
>loved persimmons, wrote essay about his longing for ethno-homogenic unity as a poet who was exiled from his people
>prof says "one of the reasons I loved him is because he said, 'Always remember the people who wrote the bible were bad poets; and you are good"

Hello /lit/ I have a very simple question for you today. What are some authors and/or novels you have read with prose that evokes visual imagery in a memorable way?

I like when the author describes stuff (things, motions, feelings) that I've never been able to describe myself.

I got back into reading about a year ago. I've read most of the /lit/ "starter" selection and a few random recommendations. Books have really helped fill the emptiness I'd been feeling in my life. I love reading all kinds and getting various perspectives through history real and imagined. But now I want to do some writing of my own.

I've been doing some prompts from this book I got but I'm not happy with my progress. Everyone in my life has always told me to just write what I want and not worry about others' opinions. Sure I get their reasoning but I know it's very possible to do so and still be objectively terrible. I don't want to be terrible; I want to improve.

Tell a beginner how to get better. Be it your own personal advice or a particular reading you recommend.

I've had some good conversations with people on /lit/, given some good advice and gotten some too.

The only major division I've seen on here is one that isn't exclusive to /lit/, but I'll say it anyways: pride. Everyone believes that what they believe is true and right, but it gets ugly people being so prideful in their understandings and all.

I'm a /lit/tle man, but I've had periods where I've toured different boards.
Visited /tv/ for a while, /POL/ was pretty neat, still go there sometimes.
/X/ is a solid board, really inspiring stuff, great if'n you're looking for ideas to write about. Look up the taxidriver stories; and if you get a chance check out their "spooky images" threads. Same goes for the wallpaper threads on /wg/.

I liked the "ylyl" threads on /B/, but they really went to shit with that picture of a banana holding its own peel. Also, the more I read--and the more I learn in general (about the history of man and the violence in us)--the more interesting the rekt threads get.

I like looking at /fa/. It's wild to see how goddamned foolish the highest orders of fashion are.

I looked at /mu/ for a while. I'm still looking for a good resource for finding new music to replace what flavorwire was for me.

I went on /soc/ for a while and made some drawings of people. Some guy put it on a shirt and ordered it off of Zazzle. Not sure what happened to that, but I'd have like to have seen that.

I think I'll start browsing /out/ again. Got some cash and I'd like to go camping in Ocala.

Been looking at /aco/ and that's made me want to buy some comics with Doomsday in them. What a cool story that guy has.
>Wikipedia: Doomsday was created through the process of cloning. The clones were subsequently killed repeatedly by some of the most dangerous species in the universe in one of the harshest habitats in all of existence: prehistoric Krypton. As such, the infant continually evolved and returned to life, becoming resistant or immune to whatever killed him before.

And almost all the porno boards because I'm not getting any atm kek

Alright /lit/, question:

Do you literature enthusiasts prefer to do your reading with actual physical books that you buy or get from a library, or do you just use Kindles/some other e-reader, or just pirate everything on your computer?

Personally I prefer actually books, my local library is free and has a HUGE selection and is close enough to walk to. Something about reading full novels digitally just doesn't seem right to me, kind of like how playing a video game on an emulator instead of the original system it was made for doesn't seem right.
