It's a matter of give and take. You give to God, but then God gives back to you.

Do you think any of us hardcore believers would keep at it, if we never received anything in return? Even Mother Teresa, who experienced decades of "spiritual dryness," felt God's consolation, early in her life and at the end of her life, as well.

You don't just go into it one-sided. Part of being extremely religious is being open to God communicating with YOU. You are reminded of God's reality, and of the value of practice and ritual, by God becoming present in your life, in ways that are not always dramatic but which you can always feel.

If it were all one-sided we'd have given up ages ago. But it isn't, because God IS real, and He DOES exist. He'll come into your life, if you invite Him in. He really will. Trust me.

You are interested. That is the beginning.

If you want a taste of the grandeur and the beauty of the Catholic Church, my advice would be to try and pray the Rosary every day. Try it for a week or two. Every day. Give it a go. See what happens.

I grew up Catholic, but was a very bad Catholic for a long time. The thing that made me return to the Faith in a very strong way wasn't anything I read, or anyone talking to me, it was deciding to pray the Rosary every day. You might keep that in mind for talking to the person you're talking to. Mary is extremely powerful and so is her Rosary, more powerful than many books or treatises.

I've been praying the Rosary every day for about four years now. It has had an extremely noticeable effect on me, I have become a much more devout Catholic as a result. Mary is actually extremely powerful and will noticeably intercede in your life if you're faithful to her Rosary. Not even memeing. Don't fuck with Our Lady.

OP, I haven't prayed my daily Rosary yet. I'll remember you when I pray it. I hope your faith strengthens again.

If anyone ITT does become a priest, they should especially try to join the Dominicans. They're my favorite of the priestly orders, and Catholicism needs their sharp theological clarity more than ever.

What do you guys think of the Rosary? It's been pretty central to Catholic prayer life since it first came into being, and it's supposedly getting more popular among young Catholics again.
