Is it true that I have to read Hume first before I even dare to tackle Kant? And if so, what specific works by him will I have to read? Are the Treatise and The Inquiry into Human Understanding going to be enough?

The most important one is probably David Hume. There's also Gass and Chesterton.

Which is better to read- the Treatise or the Enquiry?
Wikipedia says that the Enquiry is
>a shorter and more polemical work... The Enquiry dispensed with much of the material from the Treatise, in favor of clarifying and emphasizing its most important aspects. For example, Hume's views on personal identity do not appear. However, more vital propositions, such as Hume's argument for the role of habit in a theory of knowledge, are retained.
From this it would seem that the Enquiry is just a dumbed-down version of the Treatise, with nothing to recommend itself.
But, looking at the contents, most of the Treatise's second and third books seem of rather secondary interest, whereas the Eniquiry seems a lot more focused.
Also, what are some good critiques of Hume?

>implying Dark Souls isn't more literary than half of the western canon

Philosophy should be moved to /v/ t b h, they're much better equipped to tackle complex metaphysical problems (I mean seriously, David Hume was made irrelevant the second my avatar (a physical, empirically measurable, self) was made and causality was hard coded in). Planescape Torment is more literary than that pseud pandering Finnegan's Wake (it's literally just gibberish, stop kidding yourself)

Pic related is just one of the few pseuds that have been outed by the sophisticated narrative vehicle of vidya.

TA grading first year philosophy exams here. Which one of you fucks wrote this purple shit?

>"This leads Hume to the outright rejection of the idea of an immaterial soul or unchanging substance which makes up our personhood. These concepts go against the very nature of Hume's bundle theory of self and consequently they are relegated to the realm of comforting lies, false theories of unity that serve as existential dramamine on the rollercoaster of Heraclitian flux that is Being."

I'm at UofT and I know you are too. When I find you we're going to drink Espresso and discuss causation

Pic related, the closest thing the Brits have to an emotion is skepticism.

Are there any pre-requisites for Hume? I think what I'm mostly interested in are Treatise on Human Nature, his two Enquiries, and Four Dissertations.

I'm reading him so I can read Kant so I can read Schopenhauer.
