I am confused about base materialism.

Could someone break it down and how it relates to for example Marxist materialism or Spinozist materialism?

I'm a little confused by his concept of expenditure, mainly in that he thinks we go through limit experiences with no hope of acquiring something. We have sex to feel pleasure, we go through religious ordeals to get closer to God, etc. Am I missing something here?

Anybody read Georges Bataille? Where did you start, what did you think? Has anybody read his poetry?

Also, if anybody knows any books that have the English and French that would be helpful

What should I read prior to reading Bataille to understand him properly?
