Because we can conceive of meaning and experience it, even if it "doesn't exist.'

The emotion is real, and what is sought is the emotion.

Everything is meaningful in its context, and meaning is only lost when the context is broadened.

Do you question meaning when you are swept up in a great book or movie? No. You can similarly get swept up in your own life.

Furthermore, life remains quite mysterious and defiant of explanation. Who is to say death is final? You emerged from oblivion into this life, and if you destroy yourself, you may be cast out of oblivion, yet again, into another life. In fact, this is perhaps what you should expect, given your single data point. Your existence followed your nothing.

You are returning to nothing, so existence should again be expected--and it may not be so pleasant as this life you find yourself in presently.

"To sleep, perchance to dream, but in that sleep what dreams may come!" Indeed, what if death is not annihilation, but some undefined future experience that may be torturous? That is not a pleasant thought.

So, in closing, the circumstances in which you presently find yourself are not all that bad and so you should probably humor them. The machinery of the universe and the workings of your body are so mindbogglingly intricate that it seems only polite to sit through the show. It appears that a great deal of effort has been expended to put you here on this Earth, even if it is only the effort of nature.

What if it is more intelligent and knows better than our "nihilism"? What if the intelligence of life is going somewhere with its striving and sustaining of your breath? Can you really say for certain?

To be a loner. It's not for everyone.

“A man can be himself only so long as he is alone; and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom; for it is only when he is alone that he is really free.”

― Arthur Schopenhauer
