A lot of self help books are regurgitating the same essential common sense that's been around for millennia. Much of it is literary surrogate for paternal guidance that in Ghibelline times would've come from one's father or some other sacral initiated older man. Picrel has some reasonably good ones, but Nicomachean Ethics and Aurelius' Meditations are even better. Still, no book is going to grant you wisdom, discipline, or success. A lot of people turn self-help into the goal, some sort of subculture, rather than a means to an end.

Just unplug your router or otherwise disconnect from the net. There are so many freeware word processors that you have no excuse.

If you've just got into it, the most important part is actually doing it and making it a natural part of your routine. Don't worry as much about it being effective since it won't be effective at all if you don't actually do some journaling. Write what comes to mind, even if it's just as simple as what sensations/emotions are being experienced in that moment. As you begin to make regular entries you can go back and think about how your writing is in retrospect and what things you want to record in future entries. Don't get caught up too much on what good or bad journaling looks like since a journal is a very personal thing.

Yes, it's pretty overrated and a lot of the laws contradict one another, are redundant, or are otherwise inconsistent in terms of the whole. I'd consider it a decent read if you just want to understand the Machiavellian bioculture and what's being pushed in a lot of men's self-help spaces. However, much of it is reinventing the wheel, people who actually achieved power in society don't get it from a book, they get it from lived experiences, usually through a paternal role model or ad hoc fraternity. A lot of men's difficulties in the modern world is essentially due to absent, insufficient, mediated, and/or distorted paternal and fraternal relations.

Focus on being a functional person before you start worrying about whether or not you're masculine enough. I'm not saying that you shouldn't strive to explore and cultivate your masculinity but don't put your cart before your horse. Further, no book can save you, or even teach you. Learning and salvation are more internal and personal than external and material.

Just pick an idea and start writing a plot outline. Focus on the big picture rather than smaller details like that. Maybe write a couple thousand words each for the beginning and ending. Good endings are a lot more difficult than good beginnings. When you have both you'll get clarity on what you'd like to put in-between. A lot of writing is execution of an idea rather than inherent merit of the ideas themselves. You'll learn more from fleshing out a stale idea than getting stuck on a fresh idea. Write, read, rewrite, it's a gradual process of practice, refinement, and the willpower which drives it all forward.

It helps to either spend little time in front of screens or to take breaks every 15 minutes to stare around the room for about 5 minutes. If you have glasses, take them off during the break times. Wear sunglasses when you're outside and there's any sunlight, especially if there's snow on the ground. Get plenty of nutrition especially B-nutrients, Vitamin C, protein, antioxidants, and unprocessed vegetables. Meditate at sunrise, midday, sundown, and midnight for around 20 minutes. Sleep in two phases a night. Stay hydrated with mineral or at least reverse osmosis water. Practice reading at least 18,000 words a day.

It's like therapy for muscles that have gone unused/underused. You build up your ability slowly but steadily. Picrel chart will probably help. Even if you don't actually have any diagnosable disorder, cognitive skills need to be cultivated and refined when neglected/mutilated.

Doesn’t matter.
Am 21, did the same thing with the ADHD.

Get on Methylphenidate instead of Amphetamines. It’s less neurotoxic. Even protects against neurotoxicity from amphetamines.

Then read pic related. Restructure your life.
You are not like others, you have to do other things to live a good life.
Use a bullet journal, use a planner, do intense cardio workouts 3/4 times a week and do concentration meditation.

Get a k-Safe for your phone and other distraction.

Best of luck.

Don’t stay on the meds forever. They do take their toll on your body. He cardio workout is because it’s great for your brain but also because stims shave time of your life from the effects on your cardiovascular system and that’s the most effective way to counteract it.

The book which has worked wonders for me is “The Mind Illuminated”.
The author studied Tibetan and Theravada Buddhism and it definitely has dogmatic elements from those religions but the practice advise is top-notch.
The second thing you can do is regular cardiovascular exercise.
The third and most important in today’s day and age is reducing distractions, see picrel.

Anti-ADHD
Worked liked a charm.
Would include „The Mind Illuminated“ though. Best guide to Samatha meditation I’ve ever read, has helped my focus tremendously

somewhat related, but have any anons read some of the books from pic related? I've never been formally diagnosed with adhd or add (and yes, it may not "actually" exist as we know about it today), but I do often have trouble concentrating on work I have to do and shifting my focus from one thing to another; some days are better than others, of course, but some days I feel like I'm going insane and can't even get more simple tasks done (like read for an hour). I'm thinking of seeing a doctor, but I worry that whatever remedies they prescribe will fuck me up in another way.

I‘m stuck in a cycle.
I can’t focus on university because of internet and porn addiction but I get stressed by not being able to do my assignments in a structured manner, causing me to fall back on bad coping mechanisms.
I’ve already read half of picrel books and have practiced the exercises and it hasn’t helped enough to accelerate me to escape velocity on this cycle.

Was anyone here able to overcome ADHD with knowledge from books?

It will probably still take a lot of time for me to be able to access to proper therapy or even meds.
I am not diagnosed with ADHD (yet), because the process takes a long time where I live. I am diagnosed with depression but most of my symptoms are caused by the extreme self-discipline needed for me to remain somewhat functional. While I’m good at socializing I do not go out much out of feeling guilty for not being able to fulfill my academic responsibilities. In phases where I don’t have to discipline myself so hard all the depressive symptoms disappear while the focus issues remain.

>Inb4 just get organized

I keep a bullet journal and a calendar, I do concentration exercises daily, I exercise regularly, I try my best to avoid excessive internet consumption.
