Good question. I toured Trinity College Dublin the other week as a filthy tourist; my guide, a grad student, mentioned some nasty optional exam that sophomores could take if they felt up for it. If you pass, Trinity pays your room, board, everything, for the rest of your college career, even if you choose to stay for grad work. It's so fucking hard to pass that since they've had it only a few hundred have done it. Tour guide said he tried for French; he failed; the last person who passed in his subject was pic related in the 30s
