I've given up.

Even though it started of very strong, it got more and more long-winded, boring and incoherent as it went on. At page 400 I decided it wasn't worth it any longer. Maybe I've missed out, who knows. I read V. to the end and found it a waste of time as well. Best Pinecone book I've read so far is CoL49

Did people here genuinely like the book?

Can't lie, kind of rustled that I didn't acquire this cover of Gravity's Rainbow.

I think Gravity's Rainbow is his best by a long shot. I find it hard to think anyone truly disagrees with this.

How do you justify the shock scenes in this book? I was planning to read it once I'm done with Infinite Jest, but I'm having trouble seeing the benefit in reading gruesome scat BDSM and incestuous pedophilia scenes.

A couple chapters into this behemoth right here, it's funny as shit and Im enjoying it but i'm not sure what the fuck is going on. is there a free companion to gravity's rainbow? i'll take a pirated companion but i really dont want to shell out money on one, and reading without it makes the book almost impossible for me to comprehend. any help appreciated.

>Rocketman, Rocketman. You poor fucker.

I'm speechless, I finished it today and Slothrop's 'final' moments in the book are heart wrenching. It's almost as if he literally disintegrates into the background as the rocket takes centre stage, but there's always that lingering sense that he's somehow everywhere, its a sublime conclusion

Is this the greatest book ever written?

What's it about?

How does /lit/ feel about lying about reading books on goodreads?

Gravity's Rainbow.

I started reading it on my daily commute to and from university - I thought it'd be a good idea to try reading it slowly during a time where I actually have time to kill. I got to page 240 during my commutes to university (and sometimes I'd read it while I was waiting for my next lecture). Summer break's come along now and I'm starting to burn through it much faster - not that it's taking me a shorter time to read it though; it's a very frustrating book to read at times and I'll find myself having to re-read passages just to make sure if it really made any sense.

I think it's taken me about two and a half months so far to read it. I haven't been particularly consistent with reading it - some days I do and then I might leave it on the shelf for a week.

I know afterwards I certainly need something short and simple to read. I was thinking Death of a Salesman or A View From The Bridge since they're both less than 100 pages.

Gravity's Rainbow. At times I really appreciate and enjoy what Pynchon is doing with the narrative and his use of metaphors are vivid and playful, but at other times I find it to be a very frustrating book to read and sometimes I just feel very tempted to read something else that my simpleton mind could comprehend.

I certainly know once I'm finished with the book I'm going to need shorter and simpler books to read. Maybe I'll finally get around to Sherlock Holmes.

I'm reading Gravity's Rainbow at the moment - rather arrogant of myself that the main curiosity was how difficult I heard it was - and I'm curious: if I'm struggling to understand it and piece together the events and to find the meaning of certain passages, is it recommended that I continue reading?

How was your experience with this behemoth?

Gravity's Rainbow fits your bill and is indisputably one of the best and most important pieces of American literature ever.

So .. how did his peeny detect the V-2's?

Imipolex G and conditioning yeah, but two days ahead of time? Was he just a White Visitation freak with penal precognition that just happened to be conditioned to shit in the rockets?

Holy shit, I'm impressed. Like, I expected it to be difficult, and it is certainly challenging. I have to read certain paragraphs a few times to really get the idea of it. I think there's been some of my favourite uses of prose in this book alone.

What has your experience been with Gravity's Rainbow, /lit/? Did you struggle with it? Was it a breeze? An unreadable slog? Which were your favourite passages?

Started reading this today.

When does it get challenging? Apart from it being playfully meandering and having a dense amount of detail, when does it get challenging?
