this series starts off ya-ish, but by the end of book 2, the mc is blood-torturing people to obtain more power, the author has openly stated that it is a rise of a dark character, the third book is out due soon

the other is the fall by ryan cahill, i found the first to be very similar to john gwynne's malice so i did not continue, another would be the black tongue thief

This story follows the rise of a prophesied evil, starting off with a sympathetic view of the mc as he initially does questionable deeds with torturing people in the second book for blood magic.
The writing in the first book is a bit amateurish, though it tightens markedly in the second.

recently read pic related, decent pair of books, starts of ya-ish but the mc is well on the way to becoming a blood-sacrificing artificer by the end of book 2, fits in nicely with the girmdark infusion on the threads lately
