setting of the dream seems to be modern, in a sense sci-fi, in a way it kinda reminds of philip k dick's Valis

red laser is also found in space odyssey in robot Hal which is carrier of unknown forces of advanced AI which is also fit comparison for the unconscious

the red lasers seem to be image chosen by the unconscious and the voices might accompany it
