Stirner's philosophy isn't particularly bad or outlandish. Marxshits just endlessly make fun of him to try to discredit him without ever reading him/interacting with his arguments. Frankly, it doesn't seem too ridiculous to figure that morality is a human construction. And as far as people saying "WELL EGO IS A SPOOK TOO": the ego and the self are literally the only thing that CAN'T be spooks. A person's consciousness and knowledge can only extend to the self. Outside of what we can sense, we don't really have a way of determining what is real. In a world where a lot of people conjecture that we could live in a computer simulation, I don't understand how Stirner isn't considered more seriously.

In all seriousness, Singer's argument ignores the fact that the way society is organized rewards selfish behavior and punishes altruism. Even if individual altruists make life better for individual disadvantaged people, the larger system will still perpetuate injustice, so it makes more sense to change the system (vote, campaign, or even violently revolt) than to just donate all your expendable income to charity.

The obvious rebuttal to this counter-argument is that challenging the system and donating expendable income aren't mutually exclusive — you can be a revolutionary and still give generously — but this rebuttal ignores that revolution (either figurative or literal) demands resources, meaning that every dollar spent on charity (to temporarily alleviate the ills of the system) would be better spent on a political campaign (to permanently alter the way in which the system distributes wealth). Basically, it's the old give-a-man-a-fish problem: we can either hand people food, or create a society in which they can access food more easily.

I'm not sure if anyone's explicitly argued this way against Singer, but lots of anti-capitalists make these points on a broader scale.
